10 Things to Ask Before Buying Pet Insurance

1.Does your company have a good reputation?
As more than 50 other pet insurers have come and gone over the last three decades, only VPI has proven to be the most trusted and recognized name in pet health insurance. That’s why more than 80% of the nearly half million VPI policyholders would recommend VPI to a friend.

2.Can I keep seeing my current veterinarian?
With coverage from VPI, you can continue seeing your pet’s veterinarian. In fact, you’re free to visit any licensed veterinarian worldwide. You can even see a veterinary specialist or an emergency veterinarian. And unlike other pet insurance companies, VPI will never change your reimbursement level or question your decision to seek the best care for your pet.

3.Does my veterinarian recommend your company?
Veterinarians recognize VPI Pet Insurance more than all other pet health insurers combined. In fact, two-thirds of all veterinarians recommend VPI.

4.Does your company have coverage that I can easily understand and afford?
Thanks to VPI’s published benefit schedule, you know up front exactly what’s covered and how much reimbursement is available. And because VPI plans carry no lifetime limits, all of your benefits renew in full annually. Compare and you’ll find that VPI has the lowest average premium and provides the most value for your dollar.

5.How does your company determine claim reimbursements?
VPI plans provide reimbursement for veterinary expenses based on a published benefit schedule, not a percentage of the veterinary bill. The benefit schedule means there are no surprises in your coverage. You can depend on maximum stability in both premium and reimbursement—for the life of your pet. With VPI, there are:

    * No decreases or changes in annual reimbursement allowances.
    * No hidden “usual and customary” fees.
    * No arbitrary premium increases due to rising pet healthcare costs.

6.Does your company provide continuous coverage at no additional cost for chronic and recurring conditions?
Many other companies consider conditions treated during a policy term to be “pre-existing” on the next term, and will no longer cover them. With some companies, you must pay significant additional premium to get continuous.

7.Does your company cover pre-existing conditions?
No pet insurance provider covers pre-existing conditions. However with VPI, temporary conditions that are proven to have been cured and treatment-free for at least six months may be reconsidered for future coverage.

8.Does the number of claims I file affect my premium?
No. Because VPI premiums are based on the age of your pet, your rates and coverage will never be affected by the number of claims you file. Plus, VPI’s published benefit schedule ensures that your premium and coverage will not change as a result of rising veterinary costs.

9.How knowledgeable are the people answering my calls and processing my claims?
At VPI, all Customer Care representatives complete four full weeks of training before taking their first call; sales representatives are licensed by the Department of Insurance; our claims adjusters have real-world veterinary experience; and there are 70 veterinary professionals who work for the company.

10.Is your company known for pet insurance?

VPI started the pet insurance industry in the U.S. nearly three decades ago—and pet insurance has always remained its only focus. Unlike others, VPI is not an agency that leases its name from an outside organization or product manufacturer.

Not many people have dental implants these days because people have realized the importance of maintaining good oral health. And, the ones who need dental implants are moving towards veneers, which cost around the same as dental implants but do not require so much surgical manipulation. People opt for dental implants only when that is their last option. However, it is quite an expensive procedure. So, often people wonder How To Get Insurance To Pay For Dental Implants ?.

While it is difficult to get insurance to pay for dental implants, it is not impossible. There are ways and means how you can get your insurance company to foot the bill for your dental implants.

The first thing to assess is the need for dental implants. If you have been involved in an accident and lost your teeth, then you can claim insurance coverage for dental implants as a part of your treatment and recovery. Therefore, people who have had accidents should consult a personal injury lawyer to ensure that they can claim dental implants as part of their treatment plan.

In case, you have lost a tooth due to dental problems or poor oral hygiene, you should immediately go and get a good dental insurance that covers dental implants. Free Car Insurance Quotes

If you drive a car in the United States, it is a good chance you are well aware that you are required to have car insurance. If you get pulled over and fail to provide proof of coverage, your driving privileges will be faced with a suspension. You may also be required to pay a steep fine. No one wants this to happen to them! The following paragraphs will discuss three ways to get free car insurance quotes .
The first way you can get car insurance quote is to make some phone calls. Call around to your local car insurance companies and ask them for free quotes. Most companies will jump at the chance to provide this service to any potential customer. In most cases, you will be required to answer some questions to help determine a specific price. The questions also help to determine which type of policy might work best for you.
The one disadvantage of getting your free car insurance quote via the telephone is obtaining your proof of insurance information card. You will not be able to physically prove you have insurance coverage until you receive it by postal mail. If you need your proof of insurance immediately, this option may not work well for you.

Get a Discount When You Combine Insurance Policies

If you have an auto insurance and a home insurance policy, you may be able to save money if you buy them through one insurance company. With a so-called multi-line policy, you consolidate your insurance polices with one insurer. Many insurers offer discounts to customers who have two or more insurance policies with them. Some offer savings as high as 40 percent for providing you with combined coverage. Be sure to ask about this discount, when you apply for an auto insurance quote or a home insurance quote.

Combining coverage
If you have life insurance, homeowners insurance (or renters insurance) and car insurance, you may be able to reduce your premiums simply be buying all your policies from one insurance company, according to the Insurance Information Institute. You also may get additional discounts for insuring your boat, RV, or motorcycle with your primary insurer. You may also be able to get a discount if you insure more than one vehicle with your insurance company. Be sure to talk to your insurance agent about the advantages of combining your insurance coverage. Find out more about these discounts, when you apply for an insurance quote.

Loyalty discount
You may be able to get a discount for bringing more business to your insurance company, but you may also be able to get a discount for staying with your insurance company. Some insurers reduce premiums for long-time customers. Insurance companies consider this a loyalty discount. Many will offer you a discount anywhere from 10 percent to 30 percent, if you have a policy with them for a year or more.

Shop around
Even with the multi-line policy discount and the loyalty discount, you may be able to get a better deal if you insure your home and your car with different insurers. The problem is that you lose your loyalty discount, when you take your business to another insurer. When you’re shopping around for car insurance, find out about all the ways you can save money on your premium. Make sure you compare coverage, when you get an insurance quote. Price isn’t everything. You want to make sure you have enough coverage to protect your family. If you go with the cheapest premium, you may wind up paying more out of your own pocket, if you have to file an insurance claim.

Once you have determined the best coverage for your family’s needs, you’re ready to obtain a home insurance quote and an auto insurance quote. Call agents in your local area, contact several insurance companies directly to instantly get a competitive insurance quote from the nation’s leading insurance providers. Take the time to protect you and your family today.

Pet Insurance

In his book, "Tell me Where it Hurts: A Day of Humor, Healing and Hope in My Life as an Animal Surgeon," Nick Trout points out that veterinary care is the only form of medicine where decisions are made primarily based on cost, and the concept is as startling as it is true. Consider: if your daughter had cancer, you would go into debt to treat her, wouldn’t you? But if the same happened to your cat? If you’re like most Americans there is a good chance you would have your pet put down, rather than go broke trying to treat him. It’s the same with dogs: an abnormal hip in your son, and you’d hock everything you own in order to pay for reconstructive surgery – expensive even after insurance kicks in, but if your purebred dog tested positive for hip dysplasia (a common malady in some large breeds), euthanasia would be a serious, if not the only, option.
It is for just these reasons that you should consider pet insurance, but what is it and how do you get it?
Like human medical insurance, pet insurance involves annual coverage limits, deductibles, and reimbursements, as well as pricing that is often based on the species (dog, cat, bird, exotic), breed (purebred dogs with genetic predispositions to certain conditions may be more costly to insure), and age (some insurance plans will not enroll new pets over age 6, others draw the line at age 10, or have special “senior care” policies) for your pet.
Here are some things to watch for when shopping for pet insurance :
  • Waiting Periods: Make sure you know when your pet’s coverage begins. Some providers have waiting periods up to 30 days long, while others are effective immediately for accidents, but have a waiting period for illnesses.
  • Wellness Care: Not every pet insurer offers a routine wellness plan, but if this coverage is available, consider it. This gives you an annual amount of coverage for everything from spay/neuter and dental cleanings to routine vaccinations and even heartworm/flea prevention.
  • Provider Networks: Most pet insurers allow you to use any licensed veterinarian, and some even cover holistic treatment as long as it’s performed by a licensed vet, but there are pet insurance companies that give big discounts in exchange for using their network of doctors. This can be problematic if you have an after-hours emergency, or don’t live near any of their network vets.
  • Exclusions: Typically pre-existing conditions are excluded, but all policies have their own specifics. Be sure you know what is NOT covered.
  • Per-Incident Caps: Most pet insurers set their spending caps on a per-incident basis. Be sure to check these caps before you commit to a rate plan.
  • AM Best Underwriter Rating: Check out the Insurance Underwriters AM Best rating for the companies you are considering. While this rating does not tell you everything, it’s a good indicator of the stability and quality of the pet insurer you’re considering.

As with human insurance, there are several ways you can save money when covering your pets. They include:
  • Age: Enroll your pet before they are six years old for the best pricing, and pick a pet insurance company that doesn’t change the rates once your pet crosses into that “senior” category.
  • Pay Annually: While most pet insurers have monthly payment plans, you’ll save a bundle by paying annually. If you set up automatic renewals on a credit card, or via EFT, you may save even more.
  • Multi-Pet Discounts: Most insurers offer a small discount for a second pet, and a deeper one for three or more pets, though there is usually a maximum discounts.
  • Ask about other Discounts: Other discounts that are offered by some pet insurers include credit for being a vet or vet tech or working in a rescue or shelter. You may also be able to save money if your pet is used for animal-assisted therapy or search-and-rescue, or if your pet is micro-chipped.

What are the best liability policy limits?

What are the best liability policy limits?

Answer: It is generally accepted among insurance agents that the state minimum policy limits are not enough. Most insurance professionals would agree for the average driver the best liability limits to have are 100/300/100. This means:
100,000 per person for bodily injury
300,000 per accident for bodily injury
100,000 per accident for property damage

Since in most areas medical treatment is in fairly the same range, the last limit, per accident for property damage, is the one you may want to take into account if you are not the average driver. If you live in an area where you feel that if there was an accident, that was your fault, and property damage may exceed 100,000, you may want to consider higher limits. Remember, property damage is the other person's car and any other property damaged during the accident if you are at fault. In some areas one's landscaping can cost over 100,000! http://personalinsure.about.com/

Finding Car Insurance For Teenage Drivers Is Not Always Easy! By: Lisa Lukas

I can remember it well. Passing my driving test was perhaps the single most important day of my life. I was simply overjoyed, no, overwhelmed, ecstatic, elated. In fact, I was so thrilled at having passed first time that I gave myself a throbbing headache with all the overexcitement, but who cared. I had arrived. Look out girls, the new man about town will be cruising down a street near you!

Alas, it wasn't so long after that that the bubble popped and the realities set in. Oh, I had saved hard enough and long enough with my part time work to buy my first motor, but being a young and inexperienced driver meant that finding affordable car insurance was not going to be an easy task. Actually, some of the early quotes I got worked out more than what the car was worth. Can you believe that!

Good ole dad came to the rescue and gave me a much needed reality check. First he explained why car insurance for young drivers was so pricey, and then he gave me some real useful tips on how to adjust to the situation so that I can get my first motor and gain some much needed experience. Here's what he told me:

The first and obvious fact was that young drivers, and in particular young male drivers, are among the most reckless on the roads, therefore making them a high risk to the insurance companies. As the insurance business is out to make money, many are reluctant to hand out policies to young drivers. Many will deter you by offering a ridiculous premium that is well out of the reach of Joe the average teenager, or they will simply refuse to quote.

My dad went on to say that there are ways to get into the good books of insurance companies and methods to lower your early quotes. One of the first tricks is to forget the snazzy sports car as your first purchase. It's always wise to go for a car that has a low insurance group number both for safety and cost reasons. If you are purchasing in the UK, these numbers range from 1 to 20, and the higher the number, the higher the premium. So, it's important to narrow down your first choice of car by the insurance group number. Higher numbers are usually determined by a few factors including bigger engines, faster vehicles, and a higher price tag etc.

A low insurance group vehicle on the other hand, is obviously cheaper, smaller and less expensive. Ok, so this probably means your first wheels are not going to be the lady puller you hoped for, but be a little patient, play by the rules, and you'll be getting your experience and no-claims bonuses banked in no time at all. Another advantage of purchasing from the low insurance group is that you will be looked at as a responsible kid by the insurance company. Many folks stay with the same company or broker for years and once they build up a good relationship with the insurer, there are some great deals and discounts offered over time.

Another cost cutter is to purchase only third party fire and theft insurance which will drastically reduce your premium. If your first car is old and inexpensive, maybe you don't need to take out fully comprehensive cover. However, if you have spent a fair bit on your first motor, then only fully comprehensive will do of course.

Determine the cost of your auto insurance

Determine the cost of your auto insurance

One of the factors that resolve the loss of your vehicle insurance is your age. Usually the younger the driver is the senior premium that younger character has to pay than the adult more experience drivers. The argue for this is because; the statistics show the younger drivers are more likely to be involved in a car accident than older experience drivers. So to guard the claims (which are typically repeated) that evolve from childish drivers, they are charged more on their premiums.
Another dynamic for your vehicle cover loss is the nature of car you are pouring. The rate o car assurance for sport cars with two doors is much advanced than the expense of sedan assurance of steady cars with 4 doors. The cost of the car cover is higher for the luxurious athletic cars than a repeated family car.
Also, your lashing album is another dynamic that will fake the cost of your car cover. If you have a good major note with no stirring violation tickets or any accidents, then you won’t have to pay high premium.
Keep in tend that the sedan indemnity circle will be the one determine the cost of your car cover and then it is up to you to elect if you would want to buy the auto insurance document with that business or still shop around. http://www.carinsuranceviews.com

Tips for First Time Insurance Buyers

There are many scary things in this world. Buying insurance for your first time should not be one of them. In the next few paragraphs, I will offer some tips, which will remove the fear of first time auto insurance buying.

First, you should research the definitions of the types of coverage out there. An educated decision is usually a good decision. Sometimes people experience problems comprehending definitions from a manual. If you are this type of person, you might want to find out if any of your family members or friends is in the insurance industry. They may be able to do an adequate job familiarizing you with the insurance terms or definitions.
After familiarizing yourself with the types of coverage, plan to give yourself enough time to shop for the right types of coverage with the right company at the right price. When you wait to the last moment, you run the risk of not being able to purchase the types of coverage you desire.
Without planning enough time to call around and compare the rates for the types of coverage, which you desire, you also run the risk of purchasing your coveted insurance at a higher rate. In addition, companies vary in their service in which they offer their customers. Some companies offer some flexibility when you look to change your insurance coverage in the future as your needs change. You may end up compromising these when you do not give yourself enough time researching the various insurance companies that are out there.
Now that you have researched the types of insurance coverage that are out there to prepare you for an educated decision and you have allocated enough time to execute this to your advantage, you need to determine your insurance needs. A licensed insurance agent can be a good aide in helping you assess your insurance needs; however, determining your insurance needs will be up to you.
Following are some of the questions you will need to answer. Do want extra medical coverage for the party in the other vehicle? Are you looking for only what the state requires to cover your tag? Is your vehicle so old that you need towing coverage? Alternatively, does a lien holder own your vehicle, and as a result, you need extra coverage for your vehicle? Is there more than one driver who needs to be insured on your policy?
Since you have assessed the types of coverage you need, you now need to determine how much insurance to purchase. Always purchase as much insurance as you can afford.
Does it make sense to purchase the most insurance possible, and as a result, your policy cancels in 90 days because you cannot afford the monthly payments? On the other hand, does it make sense to purchase the least amount of insurance types of coverage possible when you can afford more? If you currently cannot afford the types of coverage you desire, some companies allow you to 'upgrade' your policy (increase the types of coverage) in the future.
There is another thing to consider when you are determining how much insurance types of coverage you can afford. If you are currently financing the cost of a vehicle, or you are going to purchase a vehicle and you are going to finance its cost, there is a good chance your lien holder will require you to carry comprehensive and collision types of coverage. These types of coverage help protect the lien holder financially if something happens to the vehicle; however, the cost of these types of coverage may keep you from affording other types of coverage, which you covet.
Again, purchasing insurance for the first time should not be intimidating. To keep it from being intimidating, remember the previous tips. Educate yourself with the types of coverage. Allocate enough time to give you the best possible results. Determine your needs. Finally, purchase as much insurance as you can afford.
The best place for new drivers to shop for insurance is online at CarInsurance.com. If you use their simple quote form to get a quote, the coverage page will give you simple packages to make sure you are covered and protected. You can modify or extend coverage, limits, and deductibles. Getting a car insurance quote is a great place to learn.

Factors That Affect Your Car Insurance Premium

Many factors affect the premium you will pay for auto insurance. Each is a statistically based risk for a specific population. The higher the risk associated with a person, the more he or she is likely to pay for coverage. We have elaborated on some of the risk factors below, but there are numerous others, including driver's gender, miles driven per year, purpose for using the vehicle (commuting to work, using for work, leisure only), etc.
  • Age
Statistically, drivers under the age of 25 are at greater risk of being in an accident than those over age 25. Drivers between the ages of 50 and 65 generally have the safest records.
  • Gender
Women are statistically safer drivers, but that trend is changing as more female drivers get on the road.
  • Marital Status
A married person will pay less than a single person with an identical driving record.
You can think about these factors and determine what you can do to change them in your situation. You may be able to save on insurance based upon these decisions:
  • Geography
Where you live makes a difference. Folks living in areas with little or no traffic are likely to spend less on insurance than those living in congested cities or suburbs because areas with a lot of traffic tend to see more accidents. Some neighborhoods also have a higher rate of vehicle thefts, which can result in a higher premium.
  • Driving Violations
Having an accident or moving violations on your record (speeding tickets, DWI, reckless driving, etc.) put you at a higher risk for accidents and will likely mean a higher premium. Some insurance companies will penalize you for your record for as many as five years from when the incident occurred. However, keep in mind, as your record improves, your premium will get lower.
  • Vehicle Type
A cheap car will cost less to insure than that status symbol SUV sitting on 24" rims.
  • Accident Claims
A driving record that is clean and free of accidents will hold far better for you than lots of tickets and/or accidents.
  • Credit Rating
Many insurance companies view having a poor, or even no credit history as suggestive of higher risk and thus, charge you a higher premium. Monitor your credit rating free to see if you can get a better score. A better credit score will save on insurance premiums.
  • Occupation
Insurers have statistically found a correlation between your occupation and risk. For instance, a newspaper delivery person is most likely a higher risk than the personal banker sitting at their desk all day.
  • Education
A higher education can save on your premiums.
  • Driving distance to work
  • Miles driven each year
  • Years of driving experience
  • Business use of the vehicle

What happens if I drive my car with a suspended registration?

Most states have similar statutes, but you will need to check your state’s regulations for detailed information. Usually a suspended registration means a suspended driver’s license. Typically, if a person’s license is suspended they are not allowed to register their vehicle until the suspension penalties are paid. CarInsurance.com professionals have answered many questions that will help you learn your specific state penalties. Follow this link to find questions and answers about driving with a suspended license.

A suspended license is a difficult situation in the world of automobile driving. In any individual state there are thousands of people on the road at any given time that are driving on a suspended license and registration. Many are not even aware of it.
The basic question reflects the short answer. Many people do drive while their license is suspended and they can get away with doing so until they get caught by a police officer. They are usually caught when a minor infraction occurs such as a parking light that is out, a brake light, or a license tag newly out of date. It can occur with a more major infraction like speeding or getting into an auto accident.
Getting stopped while driving on a suspended license is the hard part. Not only was your license suspended, which you may or may not have known about but also, now you will be ticketed for driving on a suspended license. This will cost additional fines and penalties to get a valid license active again. Insurance rates are more negatively affected by these types of infractions. In many states, officers have the right to put the driver directly into jail.
Sometimes a person’s license could be suspended and he or she may not be aware of it, such as a mailing from the state which was not received requesting payment of a traffic fine. Some occur if an insurance company cancellation did not get into the mailbox because the driver moved and forgot to tell the post office or the insurance company their new address. Drivers will not get mailed information about their license or registration if the Drivers License office or insurance company does not have your correct address. Unfortunately, whatever the reason, you will still have to pay the extra fines unless you go to court and the judge finds your situation unique.
The license and registrations can be suspended for several reasons. Getting a traffic ticket and not paying the fine; receiving too many traffic violation points in a 12 or 18 month period, giving false information on a license application, failure to pay child support, not stopping for a school bus, not carrying required vehicle insurance, refusing to take a blood alcohol test if suspected of driving under the influence, and if under the age of 21, depending on the state, there can be harsher penalties.
The laws are designed to protect drivers and their passengers in traffic, and to promote and enforce financial responsibility in case of accidents. Licenses can also be flat revoked for a variety of infractions, again depending upon the state or country.
Suffice it to say, it is much easier to comply with your states traffic regulations than to have to go through the hassle of complying with various traffic court fines and then paying fines and penalties to get a license or registration out of suspension.

Customizing Your Vehicle and Car Insurance

You do no want to drive around in a “plain Jane” automobile that looks like every other car out on the road. What you want is a sporty car with fancy new parts replacing the factory ones that came on the vehicle when you bought it. Once you spend the money to customize your vehicle you need to make sure that your investment is covered by your auto insurance policy.

Customizing your vehicle can be a lot of fun. You can add on ground effects that make your car look lower or more aggressive. Next, you have put on a new back fin, wing, or spoiler. There are side skirts, front dams, new grills and many other parts that you can place on your vehicle to give it the look you want. After-market parts no doubt give vehicles a personality. It is fun to see a car that does not look like all the other cars on the road.
What did you get for your money? Beyond the look of the vehicle, beyond the new way it handles, beyond the new fat wheels and rims what do you have? You have an investment. Now what happens if the rims are stolen? Even worse, what happens if you are in an accident and the after market parts are damaged or even destroyed? How will you replace them, will insurance cover it?
The best time to find out what your auto insurance company will cover is before you start working on your vehicle. You might find out the insurance company will not cover the parts you are adding on or if you are modifying your engine they will not want to continue your current policy. Even if it seems tempting to hide what you are doing from your insurance company, that is never a good idea. If they find out what you have and it is against some clause in your policy you could be in trouble. You never want an insurance company to think you are trying to commit insurance fraud.
Insurance coverages for customized cars will vary from state to state and insurance company to insurance company. There are many variables involve such as: what type of vehicle you have, the changes you are making, your current policy and perhaps even your driving record. If your current insurance policy does cover your items, such as custom wheels or rims, likely you will have to do an endorsement on the policy and pay an additional premium.
You do not want to modify a car in a way in which it would be found unsafe. Keep this in mind while doing any work on it. If you do change the car and end up in an accident and the insurance company deems that the modification made the car unsafe it could be enough, depending on state laws, for them to not have to pay out on your claim.
What if your insurance company says no to the changes you are determined to make or have already made? You likely will not have to tear up your car and put it back to the factory look. Instead, you can shop around for an insurance company that will cover your customized car. CarInsurance.com has carriers that offer simple Custom Parts and Equipment coverage. It might mean you need to find an insurance company or broker that specializes in antique or specialty cars but if you want your vehicle and all of its parts to be properly be insured you will find the right insurance company with a policy for it.
For an insurance company to compensate a person for aftermarket or customized parts the insurer will need to know beforehand that those special items were on the vehicle. After the rims are stolen or the customized grill is totaled, it is too late to notify the insurance company of their existence in most cases. If you do not think they need to know about your specialty rims wait till the morning you walk out and they are gone and see if your insurance company, without the correct endorsement, will cover them - it will not likely go in your favor.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, more thieves are going after customized parts. They have given up on breaking in the car to steal radios or compact disc players but instead go for the rims that are on the outside and sometimes easy to grab. You do not want to end up with your prized possession missing off your vehicle and not have them covered.
In short, if you are going to spend your hard-earned dollars, or possibly thousands of those, on customizing your vehicle make sure that the parts will be insured properly. The first step is to contact your auto insurance provider. Be upfront with what you have or what you want to do with your vehicle. Likely, the agent will have to look up their guidelines on the various parts and get back to you with a quote for what an endorsement for covering these items would cost.
This endorsement would apply to the comprehensive or collision portion of your insurance policy in most cases. If you are spending a lot of money on your vehicle, you should already have these coverages, which are beyond your state’s minimum liability coverage, on your vehicle. As you add new items to the vehicle, continue to let your insurer know so that they will not say they did not know about them and only pay for standard factory replacements if they are damaged or stolen.
Customizing a car can be a lot of fun and give you great joy. Do not let this pleasure be taken away by not covering your investments properly. Whether adding rims or an in-car entertainment system let your insurance company know so that you car covered if there is a loss of it in the future. Then you can ride around in style with confidence.

Insurance Tips: How to Save When Buying Car Insurance

If you want to save money when you purchase your car insurance here are a few ways that can help you as you search for auto insurance.

First thing you can do is comparison shop. Enter your zip code at CarInsurance.com and let them guide you through a quick 6 minute comparison. It is easy to shop online. Knowing is half the battle, and CarInsurance.com helps you find a lower rate; you always have the option to change insurance companies. Many people think that loyalty or leaving a company affects your rate. As long as you have continuous coverage, you can change companies and save! You can use information from your state's insurance regulator to help you decide. Most all state insurance regulator sites tell you what the state's minimum coverages are and also can show you what other types of coverage are available. Some state regulators give you sample rates. CarInsurance.com does this too...for free. There is also the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) web site which gives such insurance to consumers. Use CarInsurance.com's Car Insurance Tips to learn the latest ways to save for your situation. Armed with this information you can get quotes from a number of companies and find the best one for you.
Increasing deductibles is another way to lower your premium. A deductible is the portion of money you pay before the insurance company pays for damages or injuries. The higher your deductible is the less exposure the insurance company has, thus your premium will be lower. If you choose the highest deductible you can afford you may save hundreds of dollars over the term of your policy.
Dropping Comprehensive and Collision coverage on older cars is another way you can to save money on your insurance policy. This type of coverage protects your car if it is damaged or stolen. Usually it is the cash value of the vehicle at the time of a loss minus the deducible. On older vehicles the value is lowered already by depreciation. You need to take into consideration the premium you pay, the value of the vehicle and the deductible you have. You may be paying more for the coverage then the vehicle is worth. If there is a lien holder on the car, you normally have to keep this coverage on the car until you pay off the loan. After the car loan is paid off it is your choice if to keep these types of coverage and at what levels.
Buying a more economical car may help reduce your insurance. Yes, driving that Corvette is fun but if you want to save money maybe you can be driving something that is a little less expensive. Vehicles that are costly to fix or that have a higher chance to be stolen are generally higher priced as far as your insurance premium. There are reports that you can check to find out which cars are stolen more often. One of these types of reports is by The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI). Parts and repair times also tend to me more costly on higher end vehicles. A vehicle that is easier to repair will save with labor costs thus help lower your premiums.
Some companies give discounts if you do not drive your car as much. If you live close to your job you may get discounts for this lower mileage usage. Some companies may also list the car as an "occasional use" vehicle based on the mileage, which can reduce your premiums.
Asking about which discounts are available is a great way of reducing your premium. Discounts are given for safety features such as airbags and anti-lock brakes. Anti theft systems can reduce costs as well. Owning a house, being married, driver training courses and having no tickets or accidents are all ways that may make it possible for you to be eligible for discounts. Getting a list of discounts from your company is a great way to reduce your costs.
Maintaining a good driving record is also a major determining factor on how much the premium will be. If you can maintain a safe driving record, one without violations and/or accidents, your rates will be lower than someone who is more reckless. Many companies give discounts if there are no violations on your driving record. This is due to the company potentially having less exposure insuring a driver with a clear driving record than the driver with multiple tickets and/or accidents.
One final way to save on insurance is to keep your policy enforced. By making payments on time and keeping your policy intact you avoid extra late fees and you avoid costly tickets for not carrying the proper type of coverage that your state requires. You avoid possible a suspension of your driver's license and you also may be eligible for discounts for renewing your policy all by just keeping up with your premiums. Most companies will give renewal discounts as an incentive to stay with them and keep your policy valid and in good standing.
These are just some ways that you as a consumer may use to lower your insurance costs. Now get out there and start saving some money!

Ways to Save on Auto Insurance

For the past few years we have been experiencing an increase of premiums with regard to insurance policies. I'm sure you have been asking, as I have, why are the ratings rising? One reason is inflation and to that we owe the higher volume of car accidents nationwide. As agents and consumers we have ways to help solve these high rates.

How can we help keep rates low? What factors do we need to consider?
The first thing we need to look at is the driving record. Of course it is always best to have a good driving record. A bad driving record is the number one reason for which insurance companies hike up their rates. When having a poor record, a way to improve it is to take the classes the state provides to lower points on your license. Florida has this type of program so check with your state to see if they do as well.
A second factor to keep in mind is the type of vehicle you are having insured. When buying a vehicle one needs to take into consideration the category the car will fall into and the safety features it has.
A sports car will have higher rates because of the risk of having an accident are supposed to be greater than a car from the family category. In addition insurance companies offer discounts on vehicles have safety features such as anti-lock brakes, airbags, alarm, etc. So it is a good choice to have these types of features in your car so that your policy premium can be lowered.
A third way to lower premiums is to have a policy with no lapse in it. Renewing on time and avoiding cancellations, due to lack of payment or otherwise, will help you because at renewal a discount may apply.
The final factor I will mention is the credit check companies now run to find out if you have had a previous lawsuit against an insurance company. There has been a rapidly growing amount of lawsuits against insurance companies from attorneys. If in fact you have had a lawsuit against an insurance company the policy premium might be raised due to a higher risk perceived by the insuring company.
Knowing all of these factors we may now feel more educated when we buy our car insurance.

How Long Does It Take For Your Car To Be Repaired After A Car Accident?

You were just sitting at a red light when all of a sudden you were hit from behind, yep a rear-end collision, and now you need your car repaired so you can get on with your life. You need your car so you can get back and forth to work and get your kids to school, so how long does it take for your car to be repaired after a car accident?

The length of time it will take for your vehicle to be repaired will largely depend upon the amount of damage that has occurred to your vehicle. There are factors such as how quickly the insurance company acts to inspect the car’s damage or okay the repair shop that estimated the damages to start the repair work and the actual extent of the damages.
A minor accident in a parking lot or a low speed rear end collision will likely take a week or less to repair. If instead it was a high impact rear end collision where the back of the car was pushed forward or another type of high speed accident and especially high speed accidents that cause extensive damage, the repairs may take weeks or even months if getting the proper parts is a problem.
A car can be repaired if the cost of repairs does not go over the value of the vehicle at the time of the accident. Every insurance company has their own percentage of damage they will accept before determining a car a “total loss.” If a car is totaled out then the owner would receive actual cash value as a settlement for the vehicle instead of getting the vehicle repaired.
An insurance company can give you a specific answer as to how long your car’s repairs will take once the car has found to be repairable and the body shop involved has completed an estimate of repair. An estimate should include how much parts will cost and the amount of labor required to fix the car.
There are, of course, a lot of variables to how long it will take to repair a vehicle after an accident. In some cases there will be an estimate of how long the repair will take but then it takes longer due to waiting for parts, there is more damage that is found during the repair process, etc.
While there is no specific set time it takes for repairs to occur, such as bumper damage only takes a day, etc. below is a guide or rule of thumb for how long repairs in average take:
  • $1,000.00 worth of damage normally takes 3 to 5 days,
  • $2,000.00 to $4,000.00 worth of damage usually takes a repair shop 5 to 10 working days,
  • $5,000.00 and above worth of damage done to a vehicle normally means the car will be at the repair shop 14 or more working days.
Additionally, the type of parts required and the kind of vehicle that is involved in the repair has a part to play in the period of time the repairs will take. If you have an exotic foreign sports car it could take extra time to obtain the parts if they are not locally stocked.
The above information is based upon the time after your car has been seen by the adjuster and is ready for repair. Other factors involved are the length of time it takes for your insurance company, or the other party’s insurance company adjuster to come to your vehicle and give their estimate for repairs.
As mentioned earlier keep in mind there are variables that can affect the length of time the repairs will take even if the mechanic has given you a rough estimate. There are factors such as how busy a repair shop is, how much repair work they have on their lot waiting to be repaired when your car arrives, the time it takes for parts to arrive if ordered, etc. Keep in touch with the repair shop to see how the work is progressing and if they think there will be a delay.
If there is a long delay on starting work on your vehicle then you may want to contact your insurance claims adjuster to see if there is the option to change garages and have a body shop work on the vehicle who will be able to fix the car in a reasonable amount of time.
When you are getting your car repaired after an accident select an auto body repair shop that you are comfortable with. We recommend you choose a quality repair shop; one which has professional certifications. If you do not know of any repair shops you would want to use to fix your vehicle then try obtaining recommendations from friends, family and even your insurance claims adjuster.
A quality repair shop will work hard to ensure all repairs are done properly, that your vehicle is delivered on time, and that you are kept well informed of their progress by phone or email.
Most insurance companies and adjusters know through their time and experience which shops are doing good, quality and professional repairs for reasonable industry prices. A shop that has a written guarantee for repairs is a good indicator as well as to the quality of the work the shop does.

What To Do If You Are Rear Ended In Your Car

Depending upon the severity of the crash; which could be just a slight tap on your rear bumper due to some one's foot slipping off the brake at a stop light. It could be a major collision, totaling your car, and causing you or your passengers severe long-term whiplash and other medical injuries.

Call the police. Even if your rear-ender is a slight bump; in order to facilitate your insurance claim, you will need a police accident report. Insurance companies need legal documentation that an accident actually occurred; when, where, how, what happened, and the parties and their vehicles involved.

Police will help both parties to get the information they need, but you need to be sure you have their data as well, and if you are able, do so before police arrive. You will need your insurance card, and your vehicle tag registration. Each party should get a copy of the police accident report. Assuming both parties are medically able, here is a list of the information you will need to exchange with the other driver:

  • Name(s) of drivers and owners of the vehicle
  • Address
  • Phone numbers, home, work, and cell
  • License tag numbers
  • Drivers License numbers
  • Name of insurance company, and agency
  • Their phone numbers and claims numbers
  • Physically look at insurance cards and drivers licenses
Additionally, if there are any witnesses to the crash, get their name, address, phone numbers.
Try to remain emotional calm, even though you may be dazed or shocked by the crash. Do not get into a hostile confrontation. Usually the other driver is also shaken up, so try to be helpful, if anyone needs emergency aid let the 911 operators know if you are the one who summons the police.
If you have a camera with you in your car (ideally a digital camera kept in your glove compartment or a cell phone) take photos of the accident and damage done. Note any unusual circumstances that might have led to the cause of the crash, or if the camera would help the claims department of an insurance company, or attorney determine negligence, or percent of negligence.

As an example; here is a a typical rear-ender
  • Driver A is stopped
  • Driver B hits the car from behind.
Some states assume Driver B is at fault, but Driver B may argue against that presumption of fault. For example, Driver B may argue that Driver A stopped so suddenly it was impossible not to hit them. In that example, liability or fault may be split between the drivers. In a comparative negligence state Driver B may be 70% at fault and driver B is 30% at fault. Some states don't use comparative negligence, but many do.

Always purchase the best possible auto coverage you can afford, in case of an accident. You never want auto insurance until you need auto insurance.

Simple Steps to Filing Your Car Insurance Claim

Having even a teeny-tiny car accident can be one of life's least enjoyable moments. However, accidents happen, and sooner or later, we all have the experience of meeting one of our fellow road travelers up close and personal. Using the following seven steps to filing your claim will help you get over this speed bump as smoothly as possible.
They aren’t really accidents. They are more of an incident. Usually they are an incident that you would like to forget.
  • Understand your policy before a loss, sit down and carefully read your insurance policy. Call your agent or company if you have any questions about what is or is not covered.
  • Make sure everyone is okay and check to see if anyone needs medical attention. Even if your injuries are minor, you may still want to have them checked out at a hospital or with your family doctor. Minor injuries can become major, long-lasting injuries.
  • Exchange information when you are involved in an accident, get the other driver's name, address, phone number, insurance carrier, and insurer's phone number. Be prepared to give the same information about yourself to the other driver. You can find insurers’ telephone numbers on the proof-of-insurance cards that should be carried on your person when operating a motor vehicle.
  • Identify witnesses and ask witnesses to the accident for their names and phone numbers in case their account of the accident is needed.
  • File an accident report and contact local law enforcement officers to have an accident report prepared. If law enforcement is not reachable, accident reports and detailed instructions are available at all police departments, sheriff's offices, your local Department of Motor Vehicles office, and on your local Department of Motor Vehicles' web site
  • Notify your insurer by contacting your insurance company about the accident as soon as possible. An insurance adjuster will review the accident report to determine who caused the accident. If the accident was not your fault, you can have either your insurance company or the at-fault driver's insurance company handle the repair or replacement of your vehicle. If you use the other driver's company, you will not have a claim on your automobile policy and you will not have to pay a deductible.
  • Do not release insurers too early. Do not relieve your insurance company of its responsibility until the damages are settled to your satisfaction. For example, have your insurance company handle the claim if the other party's insurance company questions its policyholder’s negligence or offers an unacceptable settlement.
  • Consider these settlement factors.
    • Bodily injuries: You may be entitled to a monetary settlement for injuries caused by another at fault (liable) party. It can take several days for some injuries to become apparent.
    • Damages: The insurance company is responsible to pay for the reasonable cost of repairs to your vehicle. An insurance adjuster will assess the damage. Usually, insurance companies and auto body shops negotiate disagreements about what should be repaired. If you disagree with their conclusions, you have the right to obtain another appraisal at any auto body shop.
    • Appraisal clause: Most auto insurance policies include an appraisal clause, which can be used to help settle disputes about physical damage claims between you and your insurance company. (The appraisal clause does not apply for claims you file with the other party's insurance company.) If you cannot reach an agreement with your company, you or your insurer can initiate the appraisal clause. Your appraiser and your insurer's appraiser then select an independent umpire to try to resolve the dispute. Check your policy or ask your agent or insurance company for more information about the appraisal clause.

Do Insurance Premiums Increase Every Year?

Many people ask, "If I am supposed to get a renewal discount, why do my premiums seem to increase with each renewal?" The answer is not always so simple. Each year, new vehicles cost more than they did the previous year. It will probably cost more to fix a damaged vehicle than it did last year, or five years ago when you first bought your current policy. However, in many cases, your renewal premium will be less. Some factors that contribute to decreases in your premiums are straightforward.
According to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) and National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the cost of auto insurance has actually been on the decline the last couple of years. It has only been by a mere 1.7 percent and then 1 percent but that is better than the rising rate of insurance in the past (of 3% or more annually). Why are rates declining? The number of auto accidents is on the decline due to better drivers and safer cars as well as crackdowns on fraud and abuse. However, due to the rising costs for medical care, vehicle repairs and high jury awards the potential of price increases in the future still remain a possibility. Automobile theft rates and fraud will keep costs higher for motorists in some states, such as Florida, Massachusetts, and New York.
Unfortunately, even though drivers are filing fewer claims these days, the claims that are filed are costing the insurance companies more than they used to. It is costing more to repair cars as the amount of damage sustained in crashes is up from what it was a few years ago. Some in the industry feel this is due to accidents involving sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
The cost of medical coverage is also increasing. Auto insurers could pay as much as $20 billion in medical claims in one year. Higher costs for hospitalization, medical care, medication and associated legal costs are also to blame for auto insurance rates that begin to rise or may in the future after the slight decline seen in the recent years.
What can you expect to pay for insurance? In many cases, your renewal discount will offset a rate increase from your company. It can become hard to keep track of increases if you make many changes to your policy. When you move to a new residence or get a newer vehicle as these factors affect the rate you pay. Your driving record is also one of the factors the insurance company uses in determining your rate. Go to http://www.carinsurance.com. Not only will you get the rates of various insurance companies, you will see the A.M. Best rating for each company alongside their rates for your personal situation.
Now is the time for your fingers to punch their way to a quick rate analysis and view the ratings at the same time.
